Update 3/308
New year is upon us in full force. It is hard to imagine that it is already March. Business has begun to pick up. Spring has peeked at us a time or two. And the new 2008 models are in full force! We have some new models due summer to early fall. The Ford Flex and the all new 2009 F-150. Both have reviewed well at the car shows. The truck has been very well taken with a new exterior and a brand new interior. So we are excited to see those coming.
Fuel Economy Tips:
A question that is asked of me every day is how can I get the best fuel economy out of my vehicle. There are some very simple tips:
1. Make sure your tires are properly inflated to the manufacturer specs! A low tire can cause drag and not only take life out of your tires, but also cause a fuel mileage loss. So take a few minutes every so often and check you tire inflation. It will save you in the long run. Remember if you have your vehicle serviced with us we check them every time!
2. Reduce your weight load. We all carry things around in our vehicles that we don't always need. That adds weight to your vehicle and it takes more fuel to move that load. So if you don't need it don't take it!
3. Watch your speed! Fuel economy is figured at the speed limit. So the sticker may not always reflect real world driving. Use your cruise control as much as possible. This is a big help. It will take out RPM variations and the vehicle will run on a constant RPM and use less fuel than speeding up and slowing down. Slow down you may find that it will take not much more time to get somewhere.
4. Have you vehicle serviced on a regular basis. A clean engine is a more effecient engine. Don''t put off the oil changes until you get around to it. Have them done on a regular time interval!
5. Watch your acceleration in city driving. Gunning it from a stop light will use more fuel than normal acceleration. You can save a lot this way. Avoid speeding up and then slamming on the brakes.
6. Plan your short trips wisely. Try to make all of running around in one trip. Making several trips to the store in a day isn't the way to go. Try to make the most of your short trips.
These tips are simple solutions to a major issue. Will it gain you 5 mpg probably not. But if it saves you 1 mpg that is a start.
Enough about that!
